
There are many signs that a person may show that may allude to them having suicidal thoughts or tendencies. While some people are really good at hiding it, we would like to provide you with examples of behavior that someone contemplating suicide may exhibit.
Below are some signs that someone suffering may give off
- Excessive sadness/ moodiness which may be related to long lasting depression and major mood swings
- Visiting or calling people to say goodbye
- Giving away prized possessions
- Sleep issues, either insomnia or excessive sleeping
- Excessive drug and/or alcohol abuse
- Recent life crisis or trauma
- Feeling trapped
- Unbearable pain
- Withdraws
- Avoidance/ self isolation
- Actions or thoughts about hurting ones self or others (often the most serious indicator)
- Being a burden to others
Factors that may cause these waring signs include but are not limited to…
Health Related Factors: Mental health issues, Serious physical health conditions including pain, Traumatic brain injury
Environmental Factors: Access to lethal means including firearms and drugs, Prolonged stress, such as harassment, bullying, relationship problems or unemployment, Stressful life events, like rejection, divorce, financial crisis, other life transitions or loss, Exposure to another person’s suicide, or to graphic or sensationalized accounts of suicide
Historical Factors: Previous suicide attempts, Family history of suicide, Childhood abuse, neglect or trauma
